Seaside Park Police Blotter: Family Reunited, Swimmer Saved, Household Scuffle

Seaside Park police have released their periodic blotter, this time including a sampling of calls to which the department responded the week after the Independence Day holiday. The total number of calls for the week was 286.

Community Policing – Police were dispatched to the area of 12th and Central for a motorist who locked their keys inside of their vehicle. Officers arrived and were able to gain entry using a lockout kit and help the driver retrieve their keys.

Missing Person – Police were flagged down in the area of Stockton Avenue and the boardwalk by a parent that got separated from their child. Officers gathered the necessary information and disseminated a description to the patrols. The area was checked, and the child was located on the Stockton Avenue beach by the water line. Parent and child were reunited.

Swimmer in Distress – Police, Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the Funtown Beach for a swimmer in distress. Officers arrived and observed a male in the water who was unable to get in due to strong rip currents. The fire department’s water rescue team launched their jet ski and helped the swimmer in. He was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment.

Borough Ordinance Violation – While on patrol in the area of Island Avenue and Bayview Officers observed a subject lighting fireworks in violation of the borough ordinance. Subjects were advised of the ordinance and to clean up any spent fireworks. The male was issued a borough summons for the violation.

Arrest – While on patrol, officers conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of N Street and Central Avenue for motor vehicle infractions. After further investigation the odor of alcoholic beverages were observed, and field sobriety tests were conducted. It was determined that the driver was driving while intoxicated and was placed under arrest. His vehicle was towed, and he was processed at police headquarters where he was charged with DWI and other motor vehicle violations.

Well Being Check – Officers were flagged down while on patrol in the area of K Street Beach for a female who was alone and appeared to be intoxicated. Officers spoke to the female who did state she was left behind by friends. Police made sure she was okay and gave her a safe ride home.

Fire – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of O Street and the Boulevard for a porch corner post that had caught fire. The homeowner had wet the post but the fire department responded to ensure it was fully extinguished.

Arrest – Police were dispatched to the area of Stockton and Ocean Avenue for a report of a disturbance with two males and one female involved in a physical altercation. Officers arrived and spoke to the individuals involved. The two males are household members who were intoxicated had gotten into a fight. The female also struck the male victim who subsequently sustained injuries from both parties hitting him. The male and female aggressors were placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where they were charged.

Arrest – While on patrol in the area of Central and Farragut Avenue a female flagged down police and advised police that she was being followed by a former boyfriend. The male subject had parked within visible distance and the female pointed him out to officers at the scene. It was learned that the male violated a judicial order that was in place. He was placed under arrest and charged with the order violation as well as harassment and stalking. He was transported and lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of Porter and Boardwalk for a carbon monoxide alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the business and made sure people were in the fresh air. The fire department arrived and checked the business with their equipment and determined it was safe and the alarm was set off due to a faulty detector.

Alarm – Police were dispatched to the area of 2nd and Central for a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the perimeter and did not observe any signs of forced entry. All doors and windows were found to be secure. It was determined that the alarm was set off in error.
