Coastal Flood Warning Remains for Final High Tide Cycle Monday: Here’s When

A coastal flood warning remained in effect Monday for the Jersey Shore, as one final high tide cycle could affect local roadways or cause property damage, the National Weather Service said.

While Sunday’s nor’easter is moving out of the region, showers and some occasional steady rain was forecast to linger through much of the day. The PM high tide cycle, however, was the only weather feature to prompt any official warnings. In Barnegat Bay (as calculated at the Mantoloking Bridge) high tide will occur at 6:16 p.m. Further south, in Seaside Park, high tide will occur at 5:28 p.m. in the bay. (In the Atlantic Ocean, high tide will occur at 1:18 p.m., as calculated in Seaside Heights.)

“A strong coastal storm will continue to impact the region through today,” the NWS said in its warning statement. “oderate to major coastal flood impacts are likely. Severe beach erosion and dune breaching are possible due to very high surf conditions. Interests along the Atlantic coast, back bays, and tidal waterways should remain alert for forecast updates during this significant coastal flood event.”

The NWS forecast said 2-3 feet of inundation could occur at locations most prone to flooding.

The forecast otherwise called for cloudy conditions with occasional rain all day, producing between a half and three quarters of an inch of rain possible. Northeast winds would continue at 30-35 m.p.h. with gusts to 45 m.p.h. A chance of showers is predicted to linger into Tuesday.
