Seaside Park Police Blotter: Tragic Drowning, Digital Harassment, Wandering Relative

Seaside Park police have released their weekly blotter, describing a selection of calls to which officers responded over the past week. The total number of calls for service handled by the department was 102. The blotter appears below:

Criminal Mischief – Police were dispatched to the area of Lafayette and Ocean Avenue for a report of a broken window. Officers arrived and spoke to the caller who stated an employee noticed a single broken window at the business in the morning. It appeared that a rock was thrown into the window causing it to break. Officers gathered the information needed to generate a report. Management was going to check their surveillance cameras to see if they could find any footage of the incident. The area was canvassed and there were no other cameras that could have captured the incident were located.

First Aid – Police and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad responded to help a patient experiencing difficulty breathing. Officers and EMS arrived and assessed the patient at the scene. They were later transported to Community Medical Center for treatment.

Harassment – Police took a walk in complaint at headquarters from a female that stated another female had been harassing her online as well as driving by her vehicle and wanted to document the incident. Officers gathered the information needed to generate a report. She was also advised to report any new incidents and was explained complaint procedures.

Swimmer in Distress – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company Water Rescue were dispatched to the 8th Avenue beach for a male swimmer in distress. The fire company pulled the unresponsive male out of the water and CPR was initiated. The male was transported to Community Medical Center, where he later died.

Well Being Check – Police responded to the area of 1st and Central Avenue to check on a female who was intoxicated and had wandered off, which made family members concerned. Officers checked the area and spoke to the caller to gather more information about their relative. Officers located the female laying on the 2nd Avenue beach and made contact with her. She was intoxicated but otherwise fine. She declined any medical treatment and was escorted to where she was staying by police and reunited with a family member.

Alarm – Police were dispatched to the area of K Street and K Court for a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the perimeter of the residence and did not locate any signs of forced entry. All doors and windows were found to be secure, and it was determined that the alarm was set off in error.

Harassment – Police responded to police headquarters for a male who stated a female had been sending him harassing messages incessantly. Officers arrived and spoke to the male who explained the situation. Officers gathered information needed to generate a report. The male was advised to cease contact with her and block her number and to report any new instances of harassment if they should arise. He was also advised of complaint procedures.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of Decatur Avenue and Central for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm activation. Officers arrived and made sure any occupants were out in fresh air. The fire department checked the interior of the residence with their equipment to make sure it was safe. The residence was found to be safe, and it was determined that the alarm was caused by a faulty detector.
