A favorite bakery among locals and visitors to the barrier island has announced their business will expand to a second location, achieving a goal they had worked toward for some time while filling a hole in the market (mind the pun) created when an equally-beloved bakery closed its doors after last summer.

Colonial Bakery, located at the corner of Route 35 and Joseph Street – which carries a Lavallette address, but is located within Toms River Township – announced it has purchased the former Park Bakery in Seaside Park, which closed following the 2025 summer season. Colonial is also planning on opening a new location in Lavallette at 903 Grand Central Avenue, which is still awaiting construction.

The Seaside Park location, which will open in the same space as Park Bakery at SE Central and 5th avenues, will be ready for the 2026 summer season, the owners announced.

“After over a year, and countless obstacles trying to secure a second location, and so many moments of ‘Will this ever happen,’ we finally have some great news,” the announcement said. “We are beyond excited to announce that we have purchased Park Bakery from the previous owners and will be open for summer 2026!”

The bakery posted a classic-style photo of Park Bakery’s exterior with the announcement, showing the landmark brick building that has attracted lovers of sweets for generations.

“Dreams really do come true when you don’t give up,” the announcement went on to say. “Thank you for all the love and support — we cannot wait to welcome you in and serve our fresh baked goods to the Seaside community!”
