Seaside Park Opens Sales of Beach Buggy Permits for 2026

Seaside Park announced this week that the borough was opening sales of beach buggy permit stickers for 2026, following recent changes that would allow more anglers to use their vehicles on the beachfront.

The permits can be purchased at the borough’s Code Enforcement Office, located at 313 SW Central Avenue, for $50. The permit allows 4-wheel-drive vehicles to access the beach for the purpose of surf fishing. Demand for the permits from local communities has risen significantly following a debacle that locked out many anglers from being able to access Island Beach State Park.

Since the rush of spillover demand began this season after the Island Beach State Park controversy, the borough began looking into whether it should increase the number of permits as well as the price of a sticker. Ultimately, council members decided the price for a sticker will remain the same and the number will increase to 350 from 250, as in previous years.

A beach buggy permit costs $50 and allows those with four wheel drive vehicles to access the sand for fishing purposes from Jan. 1 to May 14, and Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 each year. Seaside Park is one of a handful of towns that set an annual limit on the number of permits issued. Officials said they would monitor the sales and retain the ability to increase the number of permits if there is a need to do so, and no detriment to public safety.
