Seaside Park Police Blotter: Sleepy Drivers, Car Lockout Turns Into Arrest, Fires Fought

Seaside Park police have released their weekly blotter, chronicling a number of calls to which they responded over the past week. The total number of calls for service was 275. The blotter appears below:

Suspicious Person – While on patrol in the area of Stockton Avenue beach, officers observed a male acting oddly and conducted a well being check. The male was okay, but appeared to be intoxicated. After speaking with the male, he advised us he was stranded here and his phone’s battery had died. He was given an escort to police headquarters where we charged his phone so he could call a family member to pick him up.

Arrest – While on patrol in the area of 1st Lane and Central Avenue Officers observed a vehicle not maintaining their lane and initiated a motor vehicle stop. After speaking with the driver police observed the odor of alcohol on the female driver and conducted field sobriety tests. It was determined that she was intoxicated, she was subsequently placed under arrest. The accused was transported to police headquarters where she was charged with driving while intoxicated as well as other traffic offenses and released.

Submersion – Police were dispatched to a swimmer in distress in the area of Lafayette Avenue beach. One male swimmer was reported to be in distress in the water by a family member on the beach. Seaside Park and Seaside Heights Volunteer Fire Company’s Water Rescue Squads responded and began to find the male. The United States Coast Guard also responded to assist. They were unable to locate the male, and a recovery search began. The search was suspended as evening came and visibility diminished. The search resumed again the following day, and the body was still not located. After all search efforts the body has still not been recovered.

Fire – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the ocean block of 1st Avenue for a report of a grill fire on a back deck. Police arrived and secured the scene. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire.

Arrest – While on patrol in the area of the causeway outbound, officers observed a vehicle traveling at night without their lights on. Police conducted a motor vehicle stop and while speaking with the driver, the odor of alcohol was observed emanating from the driver. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and it was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The male was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with driving while intoxicated and other motor vehicle offenses.

First Aid – Police and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad were dispatched to help a fall victim. Officers and EMS arrived and assessed the victim at the scene. They were later transported to Community Medical Center for further treatment.

Verbal Dispute – While on patrol in the area of Municipal Parking Lot 2, officers observed a male and female actively in a verbal argument. Police separated both parties and made sure everyone was okay. Both individuals were fine and it was determined just to have been a verbal dispute. Officers were able to mediate the situation without incident.


Gas Leak – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the area of Stockton and the Boulevard for a report of a gas leak in a residence. Officers responded and secured the scene and made sure any residents were out in fresh air. New Jersey Natural Gas also responded. The fire department and the gas company were able to locate the leak; the gas was shut off until the homeowner can make repairs.

Alarm – Police were dispatched to the bay block of L street for a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the perimeter of the residence. No signs of forced entry were observed. All doors and windows were found to be secure. It was determined to be a false alarm.

Borough Ordinance Violation – While on patrol in the area of 23rd Avenue and Central, officers observed a male sleeping in a motor vehicle. Police made contact with the subject and advised him of the violation. The male was issued a borough summons for the infraction.

Brush Fire – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to the bay side of Roberts Avenue for a brush fire. Police responded and secured the scene. The fire company responded and safely extinguished the fire.

Shoplifting – Police were dispatched to the area of Farragut and Boardwalk for a report of a shoplifting incident. Officers arrived and spoke to the caller who advised a female had taken a hooded sweatshirt without paying. The description of the actor was disseminated to the patrols. The business showed officers video footage of the incident. The female was located nearby wearing the merchandise. The sweatshirt was taken and returned to the store. The female was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where she was charged with shoplifting and released.

Arrest – Police responded to the bay block of F Steet for a vehicle lockout. While en route to the call, dispatch advised responding officers that the caller had an outstanding warrant out of a neighboring jurisdiction. Upon arrival police spoke to the female about the situation and advised her of the warrant. The vehicle lockout was completed, and she was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. She was able to post bail and was released and transported back to her residence.

Borough Ordinance Violation – While on patrol in the area of Municipal Lot 2, officers observed a male sleeping in his motor vehicle. Officers made contact with the male and advised him of the violation. While speaking with the male, officers observed quantities of marijuana loose in the car which are an open container violation in a motor vehicle. The male was issued a borough summons for sleeping in a motor vehicle, as well as open containers of cannabis. Because it was unsealed and loose in the vehicle the cannabis was confiscated and secured at police headquarters.

Open Door – Police responded to the ocean block of K Street for an open door to a residence. Officers arrived and checked the residence. No signs of forced entry were observed. The residence was cleared, no unauthorized individuals were found to be inside, and nothing appeared to be disturbed. The residence was secured and the homeowner was advised of our findings.

Fire – Police, Seaside Park, and Seaside Heights Volunteer Fire Company’s responded to the ocean block of L Street for a structure fire. Officers arrived and made sure the occupants were all out of the residence. Visible smoke and fire were observed in the attic. Fire departments arrived and began to contain and extinguish the fire. No injuries were sustained. Ocean County Fire Mashal’s Office responded to investigate the cause
