Brick Township will distribute free dune grass plants this Saturday, with the hope that residents will plant the seedlings in sandy areas that could use “shoring up.”
The township will be distributing dune grass to residents on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at Brick Beach III (along Route 35 North). The grass is provided by Ocean County and distributed to oceanfront communities for planting on both public and private dunes. Dune grass, the township said in an announcement, “plays an important role in strengthening and stabilizing our coastal dunes, helping to protect the shoreline from erosion and storm damage.”
While private homeowners and associations can pick up some of the 20,000 seedlings that are up for distribution, the Surfrider Foundation, Save Barnegat Bay and the township is sponsoring a dune grass planting event at the public beach. Volunteers looking to help strengthen the dune line will gather at Brick Beach III at 12 noon, after the distribution is completed, to plant the seedlings at the beach.
