The Brick Township Council took the first step on Tuesday night to give the green light to gas stations to use LED or digital numeric signs to display fuel prices.
The five council members at the meeting voted unanimously to amend an ordinance to allow gas stations to install freestanding, static light emitting diode (LED) or digital numeric signs to display fuel prices and to also allow time and temperature signs to use LED.
Council members Marianna Pontoriero and Susan Lydecker were absent.

The proposed ordinance amendment will be reviewed by the township Planning Board and, pending its approval, will be scheduled for a public hearing and adoption at the May 5 Township Council meeting, according to Council Secretary Jennifer Hartmann. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The amended version of the land use ordinance reads: “No sign or advertising structure shall include any flashing, blinking or series light or any rotation or moving parts, except for time and temperature signs and LED fuel price signs.”
