Chairman Jim Clemente and several members of the society worked to serve 22 ladies a five course tea in three rooms in the museum, the former home of the Havens family, built in the 1800s. Besides fruit, scones, tea sandwiches, lemonade and a variety of teas, there was a large chocolate raspberry cake made by former president Ed Mangold. For entertainment society member Jerri Chadwick of Brick, dressed in costume, told the attendees what life was like during the Civil War for the ladies of the time. Chadwick is a long time member of the 4th New Jersey Civil War Unit and goes to many re-enactments and battlefields.
The next tea hosted by the society will be Oct. 17, 2015. For a reservation, call 732-458-4788. Donation is $20.
