Authorities have identified a 29-year-old Toms River man as the person who was shot Thursday night after allegedly pointing a gun at Toms River police officers.
Timothy Sauers, 29, of Hightstown Lane, was shot by the officers, then fled over a concrete bulkhead and jumped into the Toms River, where Tactical Response Officers found him about an hour after 11:32 p.m. incident.
Sauers was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive his wounds.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Cedar Drive and Haines Drive in Toms River, south of Route 37 near the river, when officers approached a suspicious vehicle. Sauer allegedly quickly exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at the officers, at which point they fired at him.
According to a copy of a criminal complaint obtained by Shorebeat, Sauers is charged with possessing a firearm without a permit, pointing a firearm in the direction of another person and possessing a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
