Those Boats Behind Brick’s Municipal Building Are Finally Going Away

Ever notice those boats stacked up in the yard behind the Brick municipal building?

They’ve been subject to a lot of rumors over the years – everything from a winter storage perk for town officials to boats seized by the police. In both cases, the rumors were incorrect.

Though there were some boats abandoned after Superstorm Sandy in the yard for a while, the bulk of the boats have been there for more than eight years, left over from when the township purchased the Traders Cove property and later brought a number of unclaimed boats to town hall.

Now, it’s time for them to go.

“Our dockmaster tried unsuccessfully to contact the owners, to no avail,” said Business Administrator Joanne Bergin.

After all these years, two boats remain – a 1988 Wellcraft 25-foot cabin cruiser and a 1994 Regal 30-foot cabin cruiser, said Council President Paul Mummolo.

The township has gone through the legal process to have the boats declared as surplus property able to be sold, said Bergin. Brick will use the website GovDeals.com to sell the vessels via online auction.
