The shuttered former headquarters of the Herbertsville first aid squad will serve as the home of two businesses, according to a proposal recently filed with the township’s building department.
The building, located at 375 Herbertsville Road, served as the headquarters for the Herbertsville First Aid Squad before all of the township’s volunteer medical services merged into the Brick Volunteer EMS company. It has been vacant since 2015.
Two businesses – local attorney Kristen Johnson and an unnamed real estate school – have applied to renovate the existing building and use it to house the firm and school. The applicant is seeking numerous variances required to carry out the plan, including the construction of a new off-street parking lot adjacent to the building at the lot known as 377 Herbertsville Road, which currently carries residential zoning.

The Board of Adjustment will hear the application at its Dec. 7 meeting. In addition to the use variance being sought for the parking lot, the applicant is also asking the board to grant several minor “bulk” variances for various issues, mainly setbacks from adjacent properties.
