Brick to Seek State Funding to Renovate Three Parks

Brick Township is hoping to obtain million of dollars in state funding to renovate three parks as part of a plan by Mayor John Ducey’s administration to upgrade all of the township’s park facilities.

Brick will apply for $2.1 million in state Green Acres funding to upgrade three parks: Bayside Park, in the Normandy Beach section, Hank Waltonowski Park, in the Birchwood Park section, and Bernie Cooke Memorial Park, behind the Wawa off Burnt Tavern Road.

The township has already committed $1.1 million to renovate Hank Waltonowski Park, commonly known as Birchwood Park. The renovation plan, which was put out to bid Tuesday night, calls for the construction of two playgrounds – one for children ages 2-5 and one for children ages 6-12 – plus safety surfacing in play areas, a basketball and volleyball court, a gazebo, and lighting and security cameras.

Birchwood Park has been renamed for Hank Waltonowski, a township employee who has passed away.
