A man who Brick police say was in the country illegally and wanted for suspicion of homicide and gang activity was arrested when Brick officers pulled over his vehicle last weekend.
Patrolman Thomas Caulfield conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2008 Ford E-250 van on Route 35 South in the area of Cuttyhunk Road, Sgt. Neal Pedersen said, and identified the front seat passenger as Melvin Martinez-Guevara, 25, from Elizabeth. Martinez-Guevara had an active NCIC Warrant fromEl Salvador for Homicide Gang activity, Pedersen said.
Martinez-Guevara was arrested and transported to headquarters where he was also charged with Riding on Parts Not Intended for Passengers and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt. He was processed and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

ICE confirmed Martinez-Guevara is in the US illegally and was charged by ICE with Unlawful Entry into the United States. The arrestee is currently being housed at a Federal Detention Center in Elizabeth. Court proceedings are currently pending for the ICE charge as well as the Interpol warrant from El Salvador
The driver of the van was issued a summons for failure to have his commercial name displayed on his vehicle and released.
ICE did not have a photo available of the suspect.
