The Board of Education in Brick will conduct interviews to help decide the district’s next leader.
Interviews must be conducted at official board meetings, since it would be otherwise illegal for all board members to meet at the same time. The interviews themselves, however, will be conducted in private due to privacy considerations.
Acting Superintendent Dennis Filippone confirmed the meetings would all consist of executive sessions related to the search.

The meetings will be held Jan. 24, Jan. 30, Jan. 31 and Feb. 8. After a superintendent is decided upon by the board, a contract must be negotiated and submitted to the Ocean County Executive Superintendent of Schools for final approval.
Walter Uszenski, the current superintendent, has been suspended since 2015. Filippone is the third interim superintendent to serve since Uszenski was arrested, setting off a legal saga that remains unresolved.
