Six Flags Great Adventure Preparing for Season Amidst Coronavirus Concerns

Trips to Six Flags Great Adventure during the summer is a Jersey Shore tradition, but while the park will open despite the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in New Jersey, officials said Wednesday that they were taking numerous steps to combat the spread of COVID-19.

“First, we are closely monitoring the latest developments and following the guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO),” said Mike Spanos, President and CEO. “Additionally, we have hired a highly regarded infectious disease specialist with more than 30 years of experience as an advisor for this situation.”

Hand-washing, which experts say is central to keeping the virus at bay, is a central part of the theme park’s plans, its management announced. The park has already “significantly enhanced our cleaning and sanitation efforts on all guest and employee touch points.”

Additionally, Six Flags is providing an abundance of anti-bacterial soap in all hand-washing stations, and have placed “dozens” of alcohol-based hand sanitizers throughout all areas of the parks, Spanos said.

“Finally, we are frequently cleaning and disinfecting all ride vehicles, queue lines, restrooms, food locations, and employee break areas,” he wrote.

The park has also installed additional hygiene signage and has told workers that they must stay home if they do not feel well.

The park opens for the 2020 season April 4.
