A traffic ticket can certainly bring down your day, but Brick police officers this holiday season came up with a different approach to enforcing equipment violations that made some drivers happy to have been pulled over.
This year, the department and PBA Local 230 partnered with Advance Auto Parts for a campaign called “Blue Christmas.” In the program, drivers stopped for equipment violations, such as burnt out brake lights, were issued a warning, along with a gift card from the auto parts store to fix the problem – plus some holiday candy.
Brick officers documented some of the stops in a video posted to YouTube. The first shows an officer who pulled over a vehicle with both of its brake lights out, then a few more cars with headlights and taillights not functioning.

After performing the usual computer checks, officers returned to the window of the cars they had pulled over wearing blue Santa hats and delivered some Christmas cheer.
