Brick Township officials this week voted to purchase the first all-electric vehicles for its municipal fleet.
As EVs grow in popularity, government agencies have been encouraged to purchase the environmentally-friendly vehicles through purchasing cooperative agreements. The Brick Township council unanimously voted in favor of purchasing two EVs from one such cooperative, the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey.
Through the state contract, Brick will purchase two new 2023 Chevrolet Bolt cars for $26,088 each – a total of $52,176. The cars will be sourced from a fixed-price contract with Mall Chevrolet, of Cherry Hill.

The EVs will be utilized by the township’s park security officers.
The council also voted to purchase two new heavy vehicles for the township. The council is seeking bids for a rear-loading refuse collection vehicle and two automated side-loading refuse vehicles (often known as “robo-trucks”).
