Brick Township celebrated its second annual Kite Fest on Saturday at Brick Beach III, attracting hundreds of onlookers who gathered to see the bright colors, cool characters and nifty tricks.
The day was perfect – almost at least. The weather was so fair that, ironic for the barrier island, the wind wasn’t always quite strong enough to get the massive kites high off the ground. The massive kites, brought by professional kite-fliers as part of the overall production, require a wind speed of at least 6 m.p.h., according to organizers.
Fortunately, an afternoon sea breeze kicked up around 3 p.m., sending some of the jumbo kites into air for all to see.
Local kids got in on the action – as did plenty of parents, too – and the ocean was as inviting as could possibly be.
The video above shows some of the great scenes from the afternoon. Still photos are dispersed through the article.
