You know we love a good sunset here at Shorebeat – but sometimes (especially this time of year) clouds roll in, and the little bit of sun you have fades before you reach your destination.
Nature’s show on Sunday, as the case was, did not include a majestic sunset – but a rather hilarious onslaught of seagulls following a small commercial fishing vessel into port in Point Pleasant Beach. Gulls flying behind fishing boats, of course, is completely routine. But the sheer number of them – as well as a stunning “flow” of more birds into a small area at rapid speed – was something even we salty locals noticed while seeking out a few drone shots to end the week.

It looks like the gulls’ effort wasn’t all for naught – a nice chunk of “something” fishy went over the rail before the crew tied up to the dock. But a free lunch is hard to come by this time of year, whether due to a dearth of potato chip bags left in unsuspecting swimmers’ beach bags, or few fishing boats heading out in unpredictable winter seas. At the very least, they put on an unintended and unexpected show for us – and we were lucky enough to capture it to share.
