Brick officials on Tuesday unanimously voted in favor of an ordinance that would reduce the speed limit on a roadway in the northernmost portion of the township that also runs through Point Pleasant Borough.
The speed limit on River Road, which runs from Route 70 eastward along the Manasquan River, is currently 35 m.p.h. The ordinance would lower the speed limit to 30 m.p.h.
“The county engineering department has requested the council support their recommendation to reduce the speed limit,” said Councilman Derrick Ambrosino.

The roadway is primarily located within Point Pleasant, passing the site of the old Point Pleasant Hospital as well as Crystal Point Yacht Club. Its western terminus is at the Route 70 intersection, where a portion is located within Brick Township’s municipal border. The road, also known as C.R. 67, will have its speed limit reduced via county ordinance, however it is customary for the towns in which the road is contained pass concurring measures.
