Brick Township’s municipal court judge, Joseph Grisanti, has been appointed to a new three-year term by the township council.

The governing body this week voted to confirm Mayor Lisa Crate’s reappointment of Grisanti, who has served as the township’s municipal court judge since 2016, to a fresh term this week. He was initially appointed to the bench by former Mayor John Ducey – now a Superior Court judge himself – and replaced Judge Robert Lepore.

Under Brick’s form of government, the mayor is tasked with appointing the municipal court judge, but must obtain advice and consent from the governing body. Grisanti’s reappointment passed unanimously. His new term runs for an additional three years, from Aug. 22, 2025 through Aug. 21, 2028.

Municipal court judges are considered employees of the township and are paid a salary of $135,928 per year, which is set by ordinance. Prior to first being appointed to the judgeship in 2016, Grisanti worked as an attorney in private practice and as a municipal prosecutor in several local courts. He also served as a member of the state’s Attorney Ethics Committee, which reviews legal ethics questions.

Before becoming a Brick resident, he also served as mayor of Jackson Township. Grisanti is also a former FBI agent and served in the United States Navy.
