John Talty, a Brick Township luminary who served multiple terms on the township’s Board of Education and in various roles with civic and nonprofit groups in town, has died.
Talty, 85, served on the school board until 2015 when he stepped down due to health issues. Professionally, Talty worked for Ciba-Geigy in Toms River where he was a union leader and advocate for his fellow employees. In his role with the school board, Talty was a stalwart supporter of student athletics as well as spearheading funding for new science labs and similar resources, as well as pushing for programs to support students seeking careers in the trades.
A viewing will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Route 88, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18. A funeral Mass will be held at Epiphany Roman Catholic Church, 615 Thiele Road, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19.
