A 20-year-old Brick Township woman is facing an attempted murder charge after an incident that left her 2-year-old sister critically injured, prosecutors said.
According to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Brick police officers were called to a residence on Burke Lane by a 911 caller Saturday at about 2:30 p.m. When they arrived, the officers found a two-year-old male child with a stab wound to his chest. The child was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he is listed in stable condition.
An investigation by Brick police and county agencies revealed that 20-year-old Marlene Rodriguez – the victim’s sister – was the individual responsible for the stabbing, the statement said. Rodriguez was taken into custody at Brick Township police headquarters and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.
