‘Express Auto Spa’ Proposed to Modernize Brick Car Wash, Service Station

An application before Brick Township’s zoning board would allow for the modernization of an aging car wash, but requires some variances before work can begin.

The car wash, which would take on the name of the Express Auto Spa chain of facilities, would be located at 1045 Cedar Bridge Avenue, at the intersection with Aurora Place. According to a notice filed with the board, the property has been used as a car wash and oil change facility since 1985, having received initial approval then and operating there ever since. Approval by the board is required since the B-2 business zone, in which the property is located, does not normally allow car washes despite the existing business having stood there for so long.

The application asks for approval to modify and improve the existing car wash use, including the removal of a portion of the building containing the oil change use, the construction of vacuum stall spaces and improved site circulation. The newly-designed facility would include 10 parking spaces for the property and 19 vacuum stall spaces. Several variances are being sought, however the vast majority of them are pre-existing, including several setbacks. In some cases, the setbacks will be improved to better comply with the current code. A sign variance is also proposed, as the height limit for signs in the area is 4.5-feet and the new facility would require a 17-foot sign.

The Express Auto Spa brand is already advertising a future location at 1045 Cedar Bridge Avenue. According to the company’s website, the automated wash facilities offer memberships for unlimited car washes that are transferable to its other locations in Toms River, Jackson, Howell, and several others in North Jersey and Staten Island.

A hearing on the application is scheduled for the March 4, 2026 Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting at 7 p.m. at the township municipal complex.
