Brick Awards Contracts For Ocean Beach Concession Stands

Summer is right around the corner (at least that’s what we’re telling ourselves!) and in Brick Township, plans for the beach season have already started to to be solidified. The township council has awarded two contracts for the operation of two concession stands at its three ocean beaches for several seasons.

Both the contracts – for Brick Beach I and Brick Beach III – are three-year- pacts. Brick Beach II is a public beach in between the others, but is accessible only by way of the other two beaches and primarily used for surfing and fishing. Both of the contracts were awarded to the same company, Castaway Kitchen, of Brick, that has provided concession services in the past.

The council awarded Castaway Kitchen the two contracts after the company placed the highest bid after solicitations were put out earlier this winter. For Brick Beach I, the company will pay $6,490 in year one, $7,001 in year two, and $7,502 in year three. For Brick Beach III, they will pay $20,303 in year one, $21,101 in year two, and $21,101 in year three. Officials said three bids were received for each concession stand.

Last year, Castaway Kitchen operated the Beach III concession stand under a single-year contract for $16,202. Previously, the township had awarded a contract to a food truck from Little Caesar’s Pizza to provide concessions while the physical building was under renovations for a maintenance project.

In December 2024, the council awarded a $245,702 contract to George Koustas Painting and Construction, of West Long Branch, to complete the work on the concession building at Beach III, which also includes bathrooms and lifeguard offices. The project mainly covered the replacement of concrete columns that support the roof structure of portions of the building, as well as the repair of attic vents and soffit vents. The work also included the replacement of glass block windows, plus repairs to masonry and the building’s cedar siding.
