A juvenile, whose name has not released publicly, has been charged with murder following a shooting in Lakewood on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:17 p.m., after which Lakewood police officers responded to the area of Pearl Street in reference to a male having suffered a gunshot wound. Responding officers discovered a juvenile male with a single gunshot wound to his back, the statement said. The victim was transported to Monmouth Medical Center. Southern Campus, in Lakewood where he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation conducted by county and local authorities “revealed that a juvenile was responsible for shooting and killing the victim,” the statement said. “The juvenile is currently being detained in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.”

Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said a state law precludes his office from releasing any additional information about the suspect, such as a name or photo.
